| Town and committee meetings are held throughout the month and often focus on issues affecting the historic preservation of Hackettstown. Public opinion does count and has helped to pass and prevent several proposed ordinances this year, affecting all the residents of our town. Town meetings begin at 7:30pm and are held in the Town Hall, Stiger Street, unless otherwise noted.

The Rewards of Preservation
While restoring and rehabilitating an older or historic home is not without its challenges, it certainly has its rewards.
What makes a building historic? It's a complicated issue, but the National Trust for Historic Preservation takes a simple approach. Instead of asking, "Is this building historic?", they suggest the question should be, "Is this building worth saving?"
The "importance" of preservation comes in many flavors. It's important to save buildings with textures, styles, materials and charm to enliven and enrich our surroundings. And when we repurpose facilities that still have use, we save materials and craftsmanship that may be impossible to replace today. Preservation lets us hold on to places that keep us connected with our past.
Restoring and rehabilitating an old building or house is exciting. Although the process can be challenging, your hard work will be richly rewarded when you successfully complete your project. At the end of the day, historic preservation really comes down to one concern - it's about keeping what's important to us as individuals and a nation.
